According to Wikipedia: Shorts are a garment worn over the pelvic area, circling the waist and splitting to cover the upper part of the legs, sometimes extending down to the knees but not covering the entire length of the leg. In the beginning, they were used by young boys (mainly scouts) and we really don’t understand why, but it took some time for the shorts to become one of the undisputed staples of men’s fashion.

Maybe because of the fact that when boys reached puberty were getting their first pair of long trousers, shorts were considered not so mature. After the Second World War though, slowly but steadily, shorts found their way to all men’s wardrobes.  

• In the Men’s Apparel segment, volume is expected to amount to 43.64 bn pieces by 2027. The Men’s Apparel segment is expected to show a volume growth of 1.9% in 2024. This growth is obviously linked to the shorts market size as well!
• The athleisure style is anticipated to grow globally at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.1% from 2023 to 2030 and shorts represent a big tranche of this particular segment
• Men usually opt for lightweight (functional) comfortable shorts.  Reports suggest that the demand for denim is being replaced by the growing demand for other captivating fashion alternatives, particularly chinos and cargo pants. 
• The United Nations estimate that the world’s youth population in 2019 totalled 1.2 billion. This number is projected to grow by 7.9% to 1.3 million by 2030. The youth population is going to hugely affect and positively influence the shorts segment (as the whole of the fashion industry as well)
