The Ultimate Hair Care Guide For Curly Hair

For those who are born with curly, they will understand the issues with it every day. Then you have the people who are amazed with how curly your hair is and say they are jealous however, they don’t understand the issues you have each day.

To ensure your hair continues to look stunning, you need to have the right hair routine to ensure it stays in its best condition.

Abandon The Sulphate

There are many people who claim that you shouldn’t use hair shampoo to clean your hair. The reason why is because of hair products containing sulphate. Sulphate can be a very harmful chemical for all hair types, not just curly hair. Chemicals will strip the natural oils from your hair and cause it to dry out and with curly hair, this can cause it to frizz and nobody wants frizzy hair. So yes, you can buy shampoo however, make sure there is no sulphate in the shampoo.

Don’t Brush Before Washing Your Hair

Another common mistake is that people brush their hair before washing it. With curly hair, you shouldn’t do this. If your hair is knotted then consider brushing your hair when you are in the shower whilst it is wet. Don’t use a brush. Instead, use your hands with conditioner on your hands. However, you need to start with the ends of your hair and gradually work your way up. Furthermore, you could use wide tooth combs or a tangle teezer but just be careful when combing your hair.

Water Is The Simple Cheat Code

Sadly, just conditioning your hair is not enough. Water is a great way to keep your hair moisturised and you should also add moisture-boosting products to your hair while it is wet. To do this, you should gently wet your hair as you put it in your conditioner. Once the conditioner is in your hair, give it a thorough rinse to ensure all conditioner is out of your hair.

Gently dry your hair, without using a hair dryer. Just a dry towel will do the job and add cream and gel to your hair. The remaining moisture in your hair will then be trapped by the hair products you have just added. Yes, you need hair care products as well as skin care products as part of your nighttime routine.

Try To Use Cold Water

We all love a nice hot bath or shower, especially on a cold winter morning however try to use cold water instead. If you use hot water, the cuticles in your strands will lift up. You can either use lukewarm or cold water to ensure this doesn’t happen as it seals your cuticles and helps retain the moisture you need.

There are a number of other benefits of a cold shower such as improving your immune system against the common cold, improving your blood circulation, helping against symptoms of depression, improving your metabolism, and reducing inflammation and muscle soreness. So it isn’t just the reason for your curly hair that you should have a shower.

Continue To Condition Your Hair

Hair conditioning is going to be your best friend for your hair. With your spiralled strands of hair, your cuticles will open which will allow the moisture to escape. Instead, use a silicone-free conditioner that contains moisture-boosting ingredients to help retain that moisture in your hair.

If your hair is damaged from poor hair care, hair dye or even hair straighteners, you will need the extra nourishment. This means your hair will require deep-conditioning treatment that allows you to rehydrate, repair and restore your curls.

Add Hair Oil

There are some specific types of curly hair that require that extra moisture so if you have tight and kinky curls, you will need hair oil as well. This is to add to hair once you have used both creams and gels to add even more natural oils to help hold that moisture in. One of the best oils for this would be coconut oil which helps to keep that moisture.

Use Soft Towels

Using soft towels is also another priority in looking after your curly hair. If you use rough, low-quality towels, it can cause your hair to frizz. Furthermore, if you rub your hair hard, it will weaken the cuticles in your hair. Make sure you use a microfiber towel to gently pat your hair dry.

Finally, Take Care Of Your Hair When Sleeping

Curly hair is difficult to look after however, once you have finished with your shower routine, there is only one more thing you need to do. That is looking after your hair whilst you sleep. This is one of the most important steps for when you wake up in the morning to keep your hair the way you like it.
When you go to bed, put your hair up in a loose pineapple that is at the top of your head. Then for your pillowcases, ensure you use silk pillowcases to reduce the friction as you are tossing and turning throughout the night.
